Gale Alexander has spent 20 years in public service, 16 of those as member and chairman of the New Milford Board of Finance in Connecticut. In 2014 he ran as a candidate for State Representative. A central part of his platform was the S.T.O.P. campaign (Stop Taxing Owners of Property). This plan would replace the property basis of assessment used in most municipal tax programs with income data in an attempt to produce a more equitable and responsive system. He has long had an interest in how we assess and levy taxes and feels that we can use appropriate tax policy help reach our goals beyond the simple raising and spending of money.
